Brief: Re-designing a 1BHK apartment block in an old housing complex in Andheri, Mumbai for a family of two.
Mumbai is a city bursting at it's seams and with such a large population of people residing here, apartments are small and every square inch of space needs to provide for high functionality and productivity.
The idea was to use simple design strategies to open out the layout, orient the shared living space to the single large window, create fluid connections with the eating, cooking and living spaces and creating a compact yet comfortable sleeping space which becomes the most private and only separate part of the house.
This was achieved by creating two long stacks along the length of the apartment which houses all the utilitarian functions and storage of the house.
